HBO Max Releases First-Look Photo of Live Action Adaptation of 'The Last of Us'
During Thursday's Summer Game Fest, HBO Max released a first-look photo from the upcoming live action series The Last of Us.
Adapted from the well-regarded video game by Naughty Dog, the photo marks fans' first glance at actors Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as series protagonists Joel and Ellie.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, The Last of Us "is set 20 years after civilization as we know it is destroyed.
"Joel (Pascal, The Mandalorian), a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie (Game of Thrones alum Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal journey as they traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival."
The Last of Us was first released in 2013 by Naughty Dog. Neil Druckmann, who also served as the game's writer and creative director, is credited as co-creator and executive producer for the series.
Other involvement from the video game team includes Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker as part of the cast - two of the original voice actors for the game. Johnson and Baker will play different roles in the series, but their presence makes for a nice tribute.
Other cast members also include Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Jeffrey Pierce, and Anna Torv.
Though video game adaptations have been tough to pull off well, the recent success of some, such as Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and the Tom Holland flick Uncharted, may be turning the tide. We're excited to see how The Last of Us does!
