Happy Father's Day! Here Are 8 Movies To Watch With Dad.
It's that time of year when we honor the dads in our lives.
If you're tired of getting him the usual ugly tie and making him grill on his day off, may Enstars make a suggestion? This Father's Day, grab a six-pack, order some hot wings, and pull up a La-Z-Boy because we have eight movies about being a dad to watch with the old man.
Commando (1985)
This Arnold Schwarzenegger classic set the bar for action films. John Matrix is a tough-as-nails ex-military man who is racing against the clock to rescue the only person in his life who matters from the hands of a manacle dictator, his kidnapped daughter Jenny (Alissa Milano).
Snappy one-liners, fireball explosions, and fatherly love - Commando has it all.
As a companion piece, be sure to check out Enstarz own Adam Mock and Melanie Weir as they review this banger of a flick on Made You Watch... (a podcast).
Commando is streaming now on Starz.
Field of Dreams (1989)
In this heartfelt ghost story, of sorts, Kevin Costner is guided by an ominous voice to build a baseball diamond in his cornfield. Not sure why, his urge to accomplish the undertaking leads to a tearjerker that will have you and dad playing catch by the end.
Co-Starring Ray Liotta and James Earl Jones, the three-time Oscar nominee is definitely worth a watch.
Field of Dreams is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video.
Mr. Mom (1983)
When Jack (Michael Keaton) loses his job, his wife (Terri Garr) has to rejoin the workforce, leaving Jack to become a stay-at-home dad to their three young children. Between dirty diapers, school lunches, and a vacuum with a mind of its own, Jack will do whatever it takes to keep his house in order.
This early 80s comedy is definitely a must-watch, if only to reminisce about what a comedic gem Michael Keaton can be.
Mr. Mom is available to rent on Amazon Prime Video.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)
In the last watchable film in the franchise, Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is tasked with finding the legendary Holy Grail. But to do so he will have to rescue his estranged father (Sean Connery), an expert on the subject, from Hitler's goons before it's too late.
Ford and Connery are phenomenal on-screen together, trading barbs and awkward moments. This third installment in the franchise is infinitely rewatchable. If you decide to give it a go, you have definitely chosen wisely (and you'll get that joke).
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is streaming on Paramount+.
Onward (2020)
Set in a hybrid world of modern-day and fantasy creatures, Pixar managed to make a father/son story that is equal parts comedic Dungeons and Dragons and heartfelt family dynamics. When a spell goes awry, two elf brothers (Tom Holland and Chris Pratt) go on a quest to see their deceased father one last time.
Funny, innovative, and sentimental, Onward has all the magic Pixar is famous for.
Onward is streaming now on Disney+.
Big Daddy (1999)
One of Adam Sandler's more solid comedies, Big Daddy tells the story of a slacker Sonny, living on his lottery winnings and enjoying a sedentary existence, until his life is turned upside down when an adorable little boy shows up on his doorstep. Hoping his newfound responsibility will impress his ex-girlfriend, Sonny finds out that being a dad might be just what his life is missing.
Hysterically crass with the odd Sandler charm, Big Daddy is a fun pick to share with your pops.
Big Daddy is available on Tubi.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
In search of who his dad is, intergalactic Earthling Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and his crew of wacky alien sidekicks discover an entity that is not only a living planet but also Quill's father (Kurt Russell). But they soon discover sometimes family is more than just who you came from. It's who has been there for you all along.
Writer/director James Gunn creates one of the most heartwarming and fun adventures to come out of the MCU from casting to the soundtrack. This is top-tier Marvel.
Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is streaming on Disney+.
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
A true classic and probably one of the best installments in the ever-growing canon that is Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back answers the question of Luke and Leia's lineage in one of the biggest reveals in cinematic history. SPOILER Vader is their father.
It's more than likely going to be a rewatch for everyone, but this is the one that brings the Skywalker story to a head. More emotional than the other films, this is also one of the best crafted of the bunch.
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back is streaming now on Disney+.
Enstarz would like to wish all the dads out there a very Happy Father's Day!
