Chadwick Boseman Death: Wife Wants Estate Divided THIS Way With Actor's Parents
Since his death, Chadwick Boseman's estate has received over $230,000 in residuals. However, not having a will made distributing it a bit tricky.
RadarOnline.com has obtained Boseman's widow Taylor Simone Ledward's final accounting report. Ledward is now seeking the court to authorize the distribution of the estate 50/50 between her and Boseman's parents. Is there likely to be any contestation?
It's clear though that Ledward has truly stepped up after her husband died. She was not reluctant to do her duties, even if she and Boseman were not married long.
She has not only performed the impossible task of accepting honors on his behalf, but she has also become an ambassador for colon cancer prevention. At the NAACP Image Awards, where Boseman won posthumously for best actor in a motion film, Ledward took the time to bring attention to the disproportionate rate at which colon cancer is diagnosed in Black men.
By perpetuating her husband's heritage, Ledward continues to love and support Edward. How Chadwick Boseman's estate was managed following his death is another thing.
After Boseman's sad and untimely death on August 28, 2020, Ledward was given responsibility for his financial concerns. The "Black Panther" actor fought colon cancer for four years and underwent chemotherapy while filming parts till his death.
The problem is that Boseman didn't prepare a will before he died. He also just wed Ledward months before his passing away. Based on the documents, Ledward had requested reimbursement for funeral expenses, including $9,500 for the venue, $10,000 for the funeral ceremony, and $1,275 for flowers.
Taylor also requested payment for a mausoleum tomb costing $7,495 at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson, South Carolina. In addition, she spent $22,000 to purchase mausoleum crypts for Boseman's parents Leroy and Carolyn to be interred alongside him.
The court ultimately let Ledward to receive $47k of the requested sum. Ledward shows in newly filed paperwork that the overall appraised worth of Boseman's estate is $3,881,758.31. This sum consists of multiple leftover checks received since March 2021.
Ledward stated that the estate received $187k in residuals in March 2021. In 2021, he received three additional payments totaling $14,000. The final payment was made in March 2022 for $2,453.
The filing specifically provided, "No other assets have come into the hands of [Ledward]. All assets have been inventoried and no additional assets have been received, although [Ledward] continues to receive and deposit residual payments into the estate and/or corporate account."
Ledward emphasized that the estate had no real property, so no real estate tax is owed. In addition, all California state and federal income taxes have been paid, and "there are no outstanding tax liabilities from the Decedent or his estate."
According to court filings, the estate just received a tax bill related with Chadwick Boseman, Inc. The estate owes $51,000, but it intends to contest the bill.
The estate is currently valued at $2.5 million, including $157k in cash. An further $900,000 was held as bond in the estate action. Following the payment of a few invoices, the sum decreased to $2.3 million.
