Cameron Diaz New Movie: Actress Returns to Hollywood After 8 Years
It's been eight years since Cameron Diaz starred in a film, and fans have missed her presence as she's one of the most notable actresses in the Hollywood industry. Today it's been announced that she's coming out of retirement to work on a new movie.
According to Variety, the "Charlie's Angels" star, who formally retired in 2018, will be collaborating with Jamie Foxx in a new Netflix movie titled "Back in Action."
This isn't the first time they worked together as they previously starred in several films like "Any Given Sunday" in 1999 and "Any Given Sunday" in 2014, which was Diaz's last film before stepping out of Hollywood.
Foxx took to his official Twitter account to share the surprising announcement by sharing a voice recording of his phone conversation with the actress.
"Had to call in the GOAT to bring back another GOAT. @CameronDiaz and I are BACK IN ACTION - our new movie with @NetflixFilm. Production starting later this year!" he wrote in the caption.
At first, Diaz said she was "anxious" as she didn't know how to "do this."
The actor later brought in someone familiar with retiring and coming back to work, Tom Brady, popularly known for retiring earlier this year only to come back to NFL 40 days after his announcement.
"I was talking to Jamie and he said you needed a few tips on how to un-retire, I'm relatively successful at un-retiring," the Tampa Bay Buccaneers player said.
As of this writing, details about the upcoming film aren't available, but Foxx assured fans that production would begin later this year.
Seth Gordon is set to direct the movie based on a script he penned along with Brendan O'Brien.
Aside from being an actor, Foxx serves as an executive producer with Mark McNair, Datari Turner, and O'Brien.
Beau Bauman and Gordon serve as producers.
The latest news comes after Diaz stopped acting in 2014; she slowly faded into the background before confirming in 2018 that she's officially retired.
In a conversation with Gwyneth Paltrow about her retirement, as reported by Vanity Fair, the actress said she's "got a peace" in her soul because she finally has the time to take care of herself.
In a separate interview with Kevin Hart, the "Bad Teacher" star gave fans an insight into her personal life, saying she retired because she wanted to make her life manageable by herself.
