Vernon Winfrey’s Deep Dark Secrets Revealed: Death Threats, Secret Son, More
Vernon Winfrey, Oprah Winfrey's father, died on Friday at the age of 89.
In an Instagram post, the TV mogul stated that her father died in Nashville, surrounded by his family.
"I got the holy privilege of seeing the guy who was responsible for my death take his last breath."
"We could sense serenity fill the room after his death," Oprah continued.
Though his death was quiet, the former Nashville city councillor had a controversial life that was covered in tabloids for years.
Vernon, who died of cancer, was not only afflicted with cancer throughout his live. After being crippled by Korean War injuries that damaged his hearing, he had a stroke that left him with an excruciating limp.
According to Radar Online, Vernon had a grueling battle with Oprah's stepmother Barbara in 2013 that included charges of hookers, a sex tape, and even blackmail.
During that time, the outlet received court records in which Vernon was blamed for their divorce, citing "adultery and unacceptable marital behavior."
The divorce also allegedly revealed his low-income lifestyle, which contrasted with that of his daughter Oprah, who has an estimated net worth of $2.9 billion.
According to sources, the renowned father only had about $444,000 in "property," which comprised his Nashville house valued at $167,500, a trust valued at $133,000, and a 1973 Mustang filed in court at $4,522.
According to Radar, the divorce became so acrimonious that Barbara accused her ex-husband of threatening to murder her and cheating on her multiple times, including with a local hooker dubbed "One Tooth."

Vernon Winfrey Final Days Before Death
Vernon Winfrey allegedly spent his final days alone after losing most of his closest pals in the preceding years.
Oprah Winfrey's father allegedly watched football alone in his run-down East Nashville house.
In one interview before his death, he even pleaded to meet his daughters.
He stated in 2014, "For Christmas, I'd like to visit Oprah. We spoke more regularly when I was going through the divorce, and she seemed really worried, but we don't communicate much anymore."
Meanwhile, a homeless guy claimed to be Oprah's long-lost brother and Vernon Winfrey's son in 2016, albeit the latter was apparently "flabbergasted" by the assertion.
Despite the fact that there was no biological confirmation that the man was his son, Vernon took Danny under his wing.
"I couldn't decide whether to trust him or not. I'm too old for blood testing, DNA analysis, and other such stuff."
