Will there be a director's cut for "Thor: Love and Thunder" soon?

"Thor: Love and Thunder" became the latest film led by an original Avengers superhero. It follows the events after the tragic "Avengers: Endgame."

Fans who have seen it spent nearly two hours inside the cinema, but it was recently revealed that MCU supporters could have stayed inside for a long time because of the length of the first director's cut.

Speaking about whether there would be an exclusive "Thor: Love and Thunder" director's cut film, Taika Waititi confirmed that he would not drop a longer version of the box office film.

In a new interview with NME, the director proclaimed he is not a fan of longer versions of films - including a director's cut. Per Waititi, the long versions can be "overstuffed" almost all the time.

"Director's cuts are not good. Directors need to be controlled sometimes and if I was to say, 'Oh you wanna watch my director's cut? It's four and a half hours long!' It's not good, at four and a half hours. There's a lot of cup-of-tea breaks in there. You don't even have to pause it," he explained, per The Hollywood Reporter.

But if ever he would want to release such a long version, he noted that he would probably add more jokes in there.

Waititi, in the end, insisted that he would not do it even if he had a chance since "a scene is deleted because it's not good enough to be in the film."

Chris Hemsworth Shares the Same Opinion

In a separate interview with Collider's Steven Weintraub, the "Thor: Love and Thunder" lead star said that the extended cut was "batsh-t crazy."

For Hemsworth, the first 4-hour cut sacrificed the story for jokes. With that, the team decided to stick with telling the story and adding the finest jokes instead in the final version of the film.

But it was the best choice for Waititi and the team, as the final cut led them to make "Thor: Love and Thunder" the best movie among all "Thor" standalone films, earning $143 million in domestic and $159 million overseas.

With that figures, Hemsworth's new film became the No. 30 best opening weekend of all time, No. 12 on having the highest opening weekend among MCU films, and No. 4 for a highest-grossing opening weekend during the pandemic.
