Glee released on Aug. 1 a memorial card for Cory Monteith following the actor's death last month from an overdose of heroin and alcohol.

The video features behind-the-scenes footage of the late actor at work on the Fox musical-drama series, as well as scenes of him portraying his character Finn Hudson, the quarterback-turned-glee club leader.

In the wake of Monteith's death, the Fox series plans to have his character depart in the third episode of the show's upcoming season 5.

"The third episode will deal with the Finn Hudson character being written out of the show," Fox boss Kevin Reilly said recently. "That episode will deal directly with the incidents surrounding his death and drug addiction ... Ryan Murphy is going to film PSAs with the cast, as cast members, as friends of his, they're going to speak directly to the audience [about Cory] ... "

Glee season 5 premieres Thursday, Sept. 26 at 9 p.m. ET on Fox. Monteith's tribute is planned for the Oct. 10 episode.

The show's co-creator, Ryan Murphy, told Deadline in July that returning to work on season 5 was a collective decision made by cast and crew to help deal with the grief of losing the show's breakout star. The tribute episode reportedly has Monteith's girlfriend and former co-star, Lea Michele, as a creative barometer.

"We will begin shooting in late August the two shows we had already written, so that people can physically go back to work," Murphy said. "We will then do an episode that will deal with the death of Finn's character and follow that with a long hiatus. I don't know exactly when we will come back, and we are trying our best with this attempt at damage control."

Monteith died July 13 after he was found unconscious in his Vancouver hotel room.
