Jennifer Lopez Changing Her Last Name To 'Affleck' Is Due To This Powerful Reason
Jennifer Lopez just married Ben Affleck and said that she will be adopting her husband's surname.
Her choice to do so has people wondering why she hasn't done so in her prior three marriages.
According to a relationship specialist, the true reason she may have changed her name for the first time may surprise many people.
"Keeping 'Lopez' may be perceived as empowering to women by JLo." Others, though, may see it as a lack of devotion (to her past spouses), relationship specialist Tracey Coates told The Sun.
The move might also be interpreted as a "statement to the world" of her new relationship. After all, changing one's surname shouts "I'm married" like no other to the rest of the population.
Jennifer and Ben, who married on July 16, were originally engaged in 2002, nearly two decades ago.
When the Latina actress said her romance with the "Batman v. Superman" star had ended in a "painful split."
However, JLo's significant shift may have "had some impact on her acquiring his last name this time around to demonstrate serious dedication to him and their marriage."
"Becoming Jennifer Affleck is to be considered as a consolidation of the marriage this time around and signals to the rest of the world that they are committed to make it work," the expert continued.
Following Jennifer and Ben's split in 2004, the "Maid in Manhattan" star married Marc Anthony, with whom she had 14-year-old twins Emme and Max, while Ben married Jennifer Garner, with whom he has three children.
JLo's third spouse was Marc Anthony, who married Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003 and Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998.
The "Get Real" singer was also engaged to Alex Rodriguez, whom she dated from 2017 to 2021, however the couple never married.
Despite Jennifer Lopez's public signal, her fans need not be concerned that she would rebrand as the noticeably less catchy J-Aff.
Tracy clarified that, while JLo has adopted her husband's surname, she would continue to use JLo as her stage name.
"Not only is this her renowned name, but it also shows that you don't have to entirely alter every area of your life when you marry someone, even changing your last name."
