Miles Bridges Pleads Not Guilty to 3 Appalling Domestic Violence Charges
Miles Bridges said he is innocent after receiving felony counts of domestic violence and child abuse.
Weeks after Bridges was arrested before the NBA free agency this month, it was confirmed that the basketball star pleaded not guilty to the three counts of domestic violence.
On Wednesday, the Charlotte Hornets forward insisted his innocence on a Los Angeles court, per CBS Sports. He ultimately dismissed the charges against him, including two felony counts of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death and one felony count of injuring a child's parent.
He is expected to be back in court on August 19. A date for a preliminary hearing is expected to be scheduled on that day.
Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office's District Attorney George Gascón shared a press release and talked about the impact of domestic violence.
"Children who witness family violence are especially vulnerable, and the impact on them is immeasurable. Mr. Bridges will be held accountable for his actions, and our Bureau of Victim Services will support the survivors through this difficult process," he went on.
Miles Bridges Assaulted Girlfriend
The legal battle started from a complaint filed to a court, alleging that the athlete assaulted his girlfriend on or about June 27 and 28 in front of their two kids.
On June 29, he was arrested but released after posting $130,000 bail.
Following the arrest, Hornets released a statement telling its supporters that it was yet to share a comment on the matter.
"The Charlotte Hornets are aware of the situation involving Miles Bridges. We are in the process of gathering additional information. We have no further comment at this time," the team said.
His wife, Mychelle Johnson, shared "proof" on Instagram after the arrest. The photos showed bruises on her face, arms, back, hands, and legs. In addition, she suffered a fractured nose and wrist and torn eardrum. The muscles in her neck were also torn after Bridges choked her until she fell asleep.
Johnson noted that she always had hope that something would change. But despite her fears, she realized it was time for her to stand up and share the truth.
She also showed a medical report in which she was called a "victim of abuse by a male partner." The official medical document disclosed that she had several injuries, including "assault by strangulation, brain concussion, closed fracture of the nasal bone, contusion of rib, multiple bruises, and strain of neck muscle."
