Anne Heche Dead: Investigation Stopped, No Longer 'Suspected' of Crime?
The police inquiry into the catastrophic vehicle accident that sadly claimed the life of Anne Heche will not continue. According to the authorities, there is no reason to continue with the investigation this time as the actress is already dead.
On Saturday, the Los Angeles Police Department issued a statement to Page Six stating that it would have to halt their investigative efforts.
"Any information or records that have been requested prior to this turn of events will still be collected as they arrive as a matter of formalities and included in the overall case," the department said.
"When a person suspected of a crime expires, we do not present for filing consideration," the department clarified.
TMZ reported on August 10 that the initial DUI inquiry was upgraded to a felony after a woman claimed she was hurt and required medical attention after Heche crashed into her home.
However, an LAPD public information officer told Page Six on August 12 that the probe was only considered a "preliminary" felony pending the results of additional toxicology testing.
Previously, LAPD sources revealed that "Six Days, Seven Nights" actor's blood tests were positive for cocaine and fentanyl. However, they explained that this could have been due to the painkillers she was given in the hospital following the accident.
A representative for Heche then told Page Six that the "Dancing With the Stars" star was "not expected to survive" due to a "serious anoxic brain injury."
Her spokesman earlier elaborated on her condition, revealing that she had a "severe" lung injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns requiring surgical treatment. Heche did not regain consciousness and was pronounced dead days later. She is however, being kept alive to determine the viability of her organs for donation.
It has been her decision for a long time to donate her organs, her spokeswoman said. Since the accident on August 5, Heche has been cared for by "the dedicated team and great nurses," the representative added.
Her rep released this official statement: "We have lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend. Anne will be deeply missed but she lives on through her beautiful sons, her iconic body of work, and her passionate advocacy. "Her bravery for always standing in her truth, spreading her message of love and acceptance, will continue to have a lasting impact."
Atlas, her 13-year-old son with Canadian actor James Tupper, and Homer, her 20-year-old son with ex-husband Coleman Laffoon, survive her.
