Aquaman' & 'Shazam!' Sequels Pushed Back Again!? Director Reveals Real Reason for Delays
Warner Bros Discovery strikes again as sequels to DC films "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" and "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" will reportedly get delayed a second time.
The recently merged company has been surrounded by controversies, including the abrupt shelving of "Batgirl", layoff of around 70 employees, and a number of other project cancellations. It comes as no surprise that now DC films "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" and "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" are affected by the shift in corporate strategy.
"Shazam!" director David Sandberg confirms the delayed rumors in a tweet addressing the new release dates for the DC Extended Universe films. According to the director, the decision had been a strategic shift as James Cameron's "Avatar: The Way of Water" will also be released this Christmas.
"Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" sequel will be delayed nine months from March to December 25, 2023, meanwhile "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" will now be pushed back to three months, from December to March 17, 2023. As Director Sandberg had also been actively responding to tweets on the thread, he mentioned that "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" is almost done with production.

Not the First Delay for DC Films
At this point, fans are probably pretending to be shocked at the delay announcement for "Aquaman" and "Shazam!". Just recently, the sequel for "The Batman" starring Robert Pattinson was reportedly delayed as well.
Since the recent merge of Warner Bros and Discovery, the timeline of DC Films are reportedly being remodelled in a ten year plan focusing on blockbuster films, similar to what Disney did after buying the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav explained in a recent discovery call, "We have done a reset. We've structured the business. There will be a team with a 10-year plan focusing just on DC."
Despite the multiple delays, fans are still hyped to watch the comeback of Jason Momoa in "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom". who will reportedly be joined by Ben Affleck as Batman. "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" will star Zachary Levi, Lucy Liu, and Helen Mirren.
