Princess Diana's last moments continue to affect those people who saw her alive for the last time.

Nearly 25 years since Princess Diana passed away, a French doctor opened up about the horror and what the royal looked like in her last moments in Paris' Alma Tunnel.

Doctor Frederic Mailliez told Associated Press the horrifying story about Princess Diana and the night she passed away. According to the medical staff, he suddenly realized that he would always be attached to the princess's death and that he felt responsible for it despite not having a direct connection to the tragedy.

For what it's worth, Dr. Mailliez was driving home in the wee hours of Aug. 31, 1997, when he spotted the accident in the tunnel. Fox News quoted his statement, saying that he saw the Mercedes broken into two parts.

Princess Diana was with Dodi Fayed and driver Henri Paul at the time of the accident. When the doctor opened the door, he immediately assumed that two of them already died since there were no signs of reaction and breathing.

Meanwhile, the two others were still alive but in a critical condition.

Dr. Mailliez recalled shearing a screaming man in the front seat. However, the female passenger on the floor of the Mercedes already found it difficult to breathe.

In pursuit of saving her, he got his respiratory bag while waiting for the emergency services he called.

"I know it's surprising, but I didn't recognize Princess Diana. I was in the car in the rear seat giving assistance. I realized she was very beautiful, but my attention was so focused on what I had to do to save her life, I didn't have time to think, who was this woman," he said.

He reportedly tried to comfort the Princess of Wales when a person told him that the victims spoke and understood English.

Frederic Mailliez Said Paparazzi Were Everywhere

Although he was focused on saving Princess Diana, he noticed that flashes started to occur as the paparazzi tried documenting the scene.

Fortunately, they did not bother him while doing his job.

She was then taken to a Paris hospital, where she died after a few hours. After the incident, he began questioning himself and asked what he could have done to save her.

But his professors and investigators assured Dr. Mailliez that he did everything he could, but the princess ultimately succumbed after that.
