Meghan Markle Lied? South African Composer of 'Lion King' Reveals Truth About Duchess' Claims in 'The Cut'
Did Meghan Markle lie?
She recently made astonishing accusations in a surprise interview with The Cut.
The Duchess of Sussex said she was told by a South African during the London premiere of "The Lion King" that her wedding to Prince Harry was met with enthusiasm throughout the nation.
"I just need you to know, when you married into this family, we cheered in the streets the same way we did when Mandela was liberated from jail," a cast member at the Leicester Square red carpet event allegedly told her in the interview.
However, the South African composer who was present at the event insisted to the Daily Mailthat he couldn't recall speaking with Meghan about Nelson Mandela after the film's only South African revealed that he was "baffled" by her suggestion that his country "rejoiced" when she married the Duke of Sussex.
Lebohang Morake, popularly known as Lebo M, chatted for less than a minute with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at the premiere of "The Lion King," for which he wrote music in 2019.
He told the Daily Mail, "Indeed I was at The Lion King 2019 premier and met the Royals. I cannot comment on the matter as it was three years ago and I don't remember details of that conversation which was less than a minute, except the Royals were going to South Africa or Botswana."
"I'm the only South African directly associated with both 'The Lion King' films and the Broadway productions."
Prince Harry was heard discussing about visiting Africa and Malawi in the tape of the interaction between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the composer.
The film "The Lion King" opened in July 2019, and the pair visited South Africa, with Prince Harry visiting Malawi later that year in September.
The composer could be heard saying it's an honor to meet the Duke and Duchess, and "everyone is South Africa's heard of Meghan Markle."
When Prince Harry told the composer about his upcoming trip to the country, Morake said, "Oh fantastic. Better be seeing you then," before the couple moved on to greet another guest, Pharrell Williams.
Meanwhile, the only South African cast member, Dr. John Kanina, denied that it was he who made the controversial remarks.
He admitted that despite claiming to be the sole cast member from South Africa in the film, he had never met the former "Suits" actor.
He believes Meghan made a "mistake" when she stated, "I have never met Meghan Markle." This appears to be a blunder on her part. I've never met the Duchess of Cambridge. I am the sole South African in the cast, and I did not attend the London premiere."
Kani, Nelson Mandela's friend, also asserted that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding was "no huge deal" in South Africa, stating, "I cannot even tell you what month she married or what year she married."
