Emmys 2022 Stunt Gone Wrong: Quinta Brunson Wants to 'Punch' Jimmy Kimmel!?
Jimmy Kimmel better watch out. Actress Quinta Brunson expresses mixed feelings about the ABC talk show host's stunt as she received her award during the 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards.
Screenwriter Quinta Brunson recently received her award for the "Outstanding Writing For A Comedy Series" category for "Abbott Elementary", during the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards.
The "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" host laid down flat onstage next to the mic as a comedic stunt while Brunston received her award and gave her speech. Kimmel didn't move and continued to play dead during her speech, despite the Buzzfeed alum's urging him to wake up.
Comedian Will Arnett explained the reason behind Kimmel's comedic stunt, and that he "had too many skinny margs" after learning that his show lost the Emmys for the 13th time, prompting his pretend "pass out" onstage.
Quinta Brunson's True Feelings on Kimmel
Netizens are divided on social media on their reaction to Kimmel's comedic stunt. Some users on Twitter slammed the talk show host for hogging the spotlight during Brunson's moment.
Meanwhile, Brunson shared her thoughts on the stunt to Variety and expressed that she and the ABC talk show host shared history of supporting one another.
"I know him. Honestly, it was kind of... Jimmy gave me my first big late night spot and was one of the first people to see Abbott, and one of the first people... He Instagram messaged me that he saw this comedy and thought it was one of the greatest comedies of all time, and he was so excited it was going to be on ABC." Brunson explained.
The Emmy-winner further explained that while she held Kimmel in high regard, she may feel differently tomorrow and take it out on him during his show on Wednesday.
"So, I think, in that moment, I was just really happy that it was Jimmy up there. I kind of consider him one of the comedy godfathers," Brunson continued. "I don't know. Tomorrow, maybe I'll be mad at him. I'm going to be on his show on Wednesday, so I might punch him in the face. I don't know what's going to happen."
