Kourtney Kardashian Defends 'Boohoo' Collab Amidst Criticism: 'Exactly What I Was Hoping For'
Reality star Kourtney Kardashian took to Instagram to address the "expected" online backlash on her latest collaboration with Boohoo fashion.
The "Keeping up with the Kardashians" star recently announced her collaboration with Boohoo fashion group as their newest fashion ambassador. The British online fashion retailer aims to provide great clothing for people of different sizes.
However, Kourtney's big move sparked online backlash on social media, as many accuse her of enabling the issues of fast fashion. The practice has been called out for its lack of sustainability in products by using cheap and toxic materials.
The reality star took to Instagram and posted her statement in the photo caption, addressing the concerns and criticisms of her latest partnership.
"Boohoo approached me to be a sustainability ambassador, and though I knew it would get backlash because the two just don't go hand in hand," The 43 year old star started her caption, "I thought about the attention this collaboration would bring to people who may otherwise have no idea about the impacts of fast fashion on our planet."
The Instagram post also featured Kourtney modeling the "Boohoo" brand collab, which features sexy black-themed clothing pieces. The first out of her two collections will include 46 limited-edition pieces. Additionally, two vintage styles were custom sourced by John Hickling of "Glass Onion Vintage".
The Online Backlash Question
Aside from controversial headlines condemning the "Boohoo" ambassador, netizens expressed their disapproval of Kourtney's move on Twitter. One user clowned the "Poosh" founder by referencing the backlash on Kylie Jenner's private jet controversy. Since then, the Kardashian family hasn't been the best poster family for saving the environment.
Kourtney Stands Firm on Her Mission
However, Kourtney defended her involvement as a "Boohoo" ambassador and revealed that she had planned to make changes in fast fashion through their collaboration.
"I thought about how pushing Boohoo to make some initial changes and then holding them accountable to larger change would be impactful. It's definitely making some noise which is exactly what I was hoping for," Kourtney expressed. "I feel proud about doing it with intention and purpose."
The reality star concluded her post by inviting experts to reach out with ideas and suggestions to make the fast-fashion brand more progressive when it comes to sustainability choices.
