Ryan Grantham, who portrayed Jeffery Augustine on "Riverdale," has been given a life sentence for murdering his mother.

Wednesday, the 24-year-old was sentenced in the Supreme Court of British Columbia, Canada, almost six months after pleading guilty to second-degree murder for the death of his mother, Barbara Waite, in 2020.

Prosecutors assert that the disgraced actor recorded his confession and the aftermath of the terrible incident with his own camera at the time.

in the clip, he confessed, "I shot her in the back of the head. In the moments after, she would have known it was me."

While handing down the punishment, Justice Kathleen Ker called the case as terrible, tragic, and life-altering.

She said that the actor's "saving grace" was that he was cognizant of his actions and did not engage in a frenzy. Speaking about Grantham's mental health troubles, Ker highlighted that he had been experiencing difficulties and reading violent content on the dark web weeks before the actor fired the trigger.

According to Ker, he is receiving psychiatric care while inside and looks to be improving, as reported by CBC.

According to CTV, the child actor's attorney Chris Johnson stated that Grantham is not stunned by the sentence. The judge said she believes he anticipated her sentencing. She believed the actor has also been somewhat anxious about the situation and finds the prospect of entering the jail system intimidating and frightening.

Ker also mentioned Grantham's "small" stature and stated that she would not advocate his placement in a maximum security jail. Grantham was 21 years old when he fatally shot his mother while she was playing the piano.

Grantham allegedly planned to kill Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau after the March 31, 2020 murder. CBC stated at the time that he loaded his car with three firearms, ammo, 12 Molotov cocktails, camping gear, and a map with directions to Rideau Cottage, where Trudeau's family lived. Grantham never reached Trudeau's apartment and instead surrendered at the Vancouver police headquarters.

CBC stated that Crown prosecutor Michaela Donnelly cited two psychiatric assessments that indicated the actor had experienced a "severe period of clinical depression" in the months preceding the incident.

The findings also demonstrated that Grantham "had violent and suicidal inclinations." Grantham reportedly killed his mother to prevent her from witnessing the brutality he meant to conduct, according to CBC. Complex reported on April 1 that Grantham's sister Lisa Grantham located their mother. Lisa told the court that her mother, who was battling illness, was her "best friend" in a victim impact statement.
