Daniel Craig Recalls Past Controversial Comment, Reveals True Feelings as 'James Bond'
"James Bond" star Daniel Craig reveals his true feelings as the number 007 secret agent after a controversial complaint he made about his 15-year-long role.
Daniel Craig portrayed the latest version of the film franchise star, "James Bond" from 2006 to 2021. He made his debut as the infamous British spy in "Casino Royale", then, later on, reprised his role in "Quantum of Solace", Happy & Glorious", "Skyfall", and "Spectre".
Craig announced his retirement after reprising his role for the last time in "James Bond: No Time to Die" which was released in 2021. Marking the 25th film of the "James Bond" franchise, "No Time to Die" is currently recognized as the highest-grossing film of all time at the UK box office, grossing more than $700 million worldwide despite being released during the pandemic.
The producers of the "James Bond" franchise, half-siblings Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, recently received the 2022 Pioneer of the Year Award from the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation. Actor James Craig made a surprise appearance and speech during the ceremony, expressing his true feelings at the near end of his role as James Bond.
"On a personal note. I am very so deeply proud of the work we've done together. I am humbled and amazed by our achievements, the records we've broken, and the lives that we've affected." Craig expressed in his speech. "And although, on occasion, sometimes I've complained, grumbled - even threatened to slash my wrists - I wouldn't change a second of it."
Past Complaints as 'James Bond'
In his recent speech, the 54-year-old star referenced some of his past complaints that grew controversial. In a 2016 interview with Time magazine, Craig stated that he would rather slash his wrists than reprise his role as "James Bond" following his fourth film, "Spectre".
Additionally, Craig expressed that he did not care who would be the next James Bond. This string of complaints grew controversial as fans called out the actor for being "ungrateful". However, Craig has since apologized for his remarks in a 2021 interview with Radio Times.
"To be completely honest, I was thinking, 'I don't know if I can do another one of these.' I finished filming Spectre with a broken leg." Craig expressed. "I needed a break. A little more skill in the answer might have been better. I was joking but it came across as ungrateful."
Producer Barbara Broccoli took the blame for Craig's controversial remarks, as they had asked him to do press interviews immediately after a broken leg from filming "Spectre".
