Prince Andrew and Princess Diana were both against then-Prince Charles becoming king.

Royal fans expressed their concerns over King Charles III succeeding the throne. They argued before Queen Elizabeth II's death that the then-heir to the throne might ruin the monarchy by being political or pursuing his desire to slim down the royal family.

But long before the concerns rose, Prince Andrew and Princess Diana already plotted to bring down the then-first reserve to the throne and allow Prince William to ascend the throne instead.

Royal author Angela Levin dropped further details about Prince Andrew and Princess Diana's plot in her book, "Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall: From Outcast to Future Queen Consort" (via Express). According to Levin, Prince Andrew himself wanted to have a position in the monarchy as he was originally the second in line to the throne before Prince William, Prince Harry, and their families appeared in the picture.

"When Diana was alive, through her friendship with Andrew's wife Sarah, [Duchess of York] she plotted with Andrew to try to push Prince Charles aside so Prince Andrew could become Regent to Prince William, who was then a teenager. They were dark and strange times, where paranoia became reality, and this was a worry," Levin said.

The author added that the Duke of York prayed so hard that King Charles III would never inherit the crown and see Prince William on the throne instead. Unfortunately, it did not happen at all.

Did Queen Elizabeth II Reject Prince Andrew's Wish?

If Prince Andrew and Princess Diana's plan succeeded, the Duke of York wanted to become Prince William's regent.

However, the royal author noted that the late monarch thought his plans were absurd, making her reject his wish.

With King Charles III now having to wait for a few months to have his official coronation, Prince Andrew's relationship with him resurfaced. For years, their relationship has also become strange, especially when the Duke of York got accused of sexual abuse by Virginia Giuffre.

The civil sexual assault case came to an end earlier this year when the two parties reportedly reached an out-of-court settlement, with the royal prince paying Giuffre an undisclosed sum.

The royal brothers had some issues again in June when King Charles III was torn whether or not Prince Andrew should attend the Order of the Garter ceremony.
