Queen Elizabeth II reportedly planned to die in Scotland due to a shocking reason.

Queen Elizabeth II died while fulfilling the promise she made when she succeeded to the throne: to serve the crown for the rest of her life. She made the declaration in her speech to mark her 21st birthday in 1947.

Buckingham Palace eventually marked the end of her reign when she died last month due to "old age."

But a report recently revealed that the Queen "planned" to die in Scotland because of a heartwarming reason - to save the union.

A friend of the monarch told The Daily Beast that Queen Elizabeth II already knew she was frail. That was the reason why she opted to be in Balmoral Castle for the "kissing of hands" ceremony with incoming Prime Minister Liz Truss instead of doing it in Windsor Castle.

"Of course she had access to medics at Balmoral, but nothing like at Windsor. Balmoral is very isolated, but that is where she wanted to be, precisely because she thought the end might be near. She planned to die in Scotland to save the union," the pal claimed.

Elsewhere in the article, former Scottish first minister Alex Salmond shared the same sentiment but clarified that Queen Elizabeth II's choice to die in Scotland was not a political statement.

Per Salmond, the Queen chose to die at Balmoral "for the very human reason" as it is where she felt the happiest and most comfortable. He added that she would be pleased by how the union was ultimately strengthened by her choice.
