NeNe Leakes' 23-Year-Old Son Nearly Died After Suffering Emergency Medical Issues [DETAILS]
NeNe Leakes, "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" alum, revealed the hard time their family is going through right now.
Over a month after a news outlet revealed the hospitalization of Leakes' 23-year-old son, Brentt Leakes, the matriarch shared an update to her followers on Monday through Instagram Story. She noted that her son was too young to suffer congestive heart failure and a stroke.
"This is not the way I wanted it to come out. We wanted to be able to talk about it ourselves when Brentt was in a better place. So, here I am because I would rather the correct thing be out there than something that's not correct," she said, as quoted by PEOPLE.
Leakes added that Brentt still struggles with speaking. But as the treatment continues, he reportedly has shown improvement already, making the mother happy and blessed.
There have been rumors surrounding Brentt's condition, with buzzes about his potential drug use emerged. Leakes clarified that no drugs or alcohol were involved in her son's case. She added that he did not have HIV, COVID-19, or other infections.
One follower asked whether his weight was the problem, but the reality star disclosed that her son's doctors ruled that out already.
Instead, she revealed it could be a genetic condition as she was previously treated for blood clots in her lungs years ago.
In addition, Leakes assumed that Brentt must have been stressed as they recently marked the first death anniversary of Greg Leakes.
What Happened to Greg Leakes?
Brentt's hospitalization came a year after his father, Gregg, died peacefully after battling colon cancer.
"Today the Leakes family is in deep pain with a broken heart. After a long battle with cancer, Gregg Leakes has passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by all of his children, very close loved ones and wife NeNe Leakes," publicist Ernest Dukes said.
Before his death, Leakes responded to the public, who called her rude for not greeting a patron with a happy birthday. At that time, she disclosed that her husband was transitioning "to the other side" already.
Gregg still underwent therapy for six months before the dreaded disease went into remission. His colon cancer came back in June last year.
According to Mount Sinai's official website, colon cancer starts in a patient's large intestine (colon) or rectum (end of the colon). It is one of the leading causes of death due to cancer globally, but it is curable if it is diagnosed early.
