William H. Macy revealed how Philip Seymour Hoffman's memories still linger in him.

Hoffman's death was a shock to the industry as he died unexpectedly in 2014. Eight years after the tragedy, Macy recalled the times he spent with Hoffman and revealed how he became "the best" of them.

Vulture invited Macy for an interview to mark the 25th anniversary of the movie, "Boogie Nights." The 72-year-old actor then revealed how he was never bad as an actor and a person.

"I don't know if it's just looking back, but I now see that he was in pain. I think the weight of living was heavier on Phil than it is on other people," Macy went on.

He also recalled the time Hoffman disapproved of his opinion about living the character, saying that he learned how to find the character in himself and submerge himself into its world.

Although the world lost him suddenly, Macy noted the greatest gift Hoffman left. The late actor's movies reportedly showed how brilliant he was at all times.

Hoffman indeed earned accolades in his 23-year career, leading several films like "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead," "Capote," "Charlie Wilson's War," "The Master," and "Doubt." These roles led him to earn an Academy Award and Tony Award nominations.

What Was Philip Seymour Hoffman's Cause of Death?

Hoffman left the world for good on Feb. 2, 2014 when his assistant, Isabella Wing-Davey, and David Bar Katz, found him in his New York City apartment's bathroom floor.

According to the authorities, he died of an apparent drug overdose at the age of 46. The responders found him with a syringe on his arm and two clear envelopes of drugs near his body.

Eight other envelopes were discovered near the scene.

After the completion of the investigation, the law enforcement team and investigators found 50 small bags of heroin - some unopened, some already used.

Hoffman tried to save himself by entering a detox center after he relapsed in 2012. He stayed clean for 23 years before his death.

According to his partner, Mimi O'Donnell, the actor struggled with addiction while they were dating. She told Vogue Hoffman started struggling with heroin in his early 20s, leading him to undergo his first rehab at the age of 22.

He reportedly got addicted to alcohol, as well, before starting to use heroin again.
