Bill Murray Problematic? Geena Davis Reveals Incident That Left Her 'Dying in Shame'
Actress Geena Davis opens up on her experience working with Bill Murray and recalls some shameful incidents.
Geena Davis's acting career dates back to 1982 when she scored her first film role in "Tootsie". She, later on, starred in the 1990 crime comedy film, "Quick Change", which was directed and starred by Bill Murray. However, an excerpt from Geena Davis' memoir, titled, "Dying of Politeness: A Memoir" reveals her awkward encounters with the 72-year-old actor.
Shameful Encounters with Bill Murray
According to Davis, during her first meeting with the actor in a hotel suite, Murray had insisted on the use of a massage device called "The Thumper" on her despite her refusal, to which he forcibly put the massager on her back for around two seconds.
"I said no multiple times, but he wouldn't relent," Davis shares in her memoir book. "I would have had to yell at him and cause a scene if I was to get him to give up trying to force me to do it; the other men in the room did nothing to make it stop. I realized with profound sadness that I didn't yet have the ability to withstand this onslaught - or to simply walk out."
Additionally, the 66-year-old actress recalls a disturbing incident with Murray during their first day of filming, as the actor had violently banged on the door of her trailer before screaming at her, "WHAT THE F--- ARE YOU DOING?", which left her feeling shamed.
"And with that, he got behind me and roared in my ears, out of the trailer, onto the street," Geena Davis painfully recalled in her memoir. "There were easily more than 300 there-and Murray was still screaming at me, for all to see and hear."
Not the First Problematic Story of Bill Murray
The actor has been known to be difficult to work with among Hollywood stars. Prior to Geena Davis' recollection of her time with Bill Murray, other actresses have stepped forward with their own disturbing stories about the actor.
Actress Lucy Liu recalls in a past interview how co-star Bill Murray allegedly hurled insults directly at her on the set of "Charlie's Angels" and used language that was "inexcusable and unacceptable", after which Lucy had stood up for herself.
