Jeffrey Dahmer's Story on Netflix Inaccurate: Mother of Murderer's Victim Speaks Up Over Disrespecting Release
The issues surrounding Netflix's "Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story" are far from over.
After being called out by the families of Jeffrey Dahmer's victims when the streaming giant released the flick last month, Netflix received another statement from a mother who said the series was inaccurate.
Speaking with The Guardian, Tony Hughes' mother, Shirley said she did not watch the series entirely but said that things did not happen the way it depicted the crimes.
"I don't see how they can do that. I don't see how they can use our names and put stuff out like that out there," she said
Dahmer drugged Tony, dismembered him, and kept his skull after picking him up at a Milwaukee gay bar on May 24, 1991. At the time of his death, Shirley's son was 31.
The misleading scenes are reportedly shown in the show's episode 6, "Silenced." In the series, it claims that Tony tries to leave after spending a night with Dahmer, but the murderer kills him with a hammer.
The episode ended with a scene in which the serial killer eats his liver after donating money to a search and rescue effort to find him.
Shirley, in the end, told the news outlet how many tears he shed when she learned the truth about her son's disappearance and death. But she had no choice but to trust and pray and live her life until Dahmer paid for what he had done.
The matriarch won a civil court judgment that allowed her to have $10 million from the offers to the serial killer for movies or anything that needs the rights to his story.
"Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story" Hurt Victims' Families Again
Shirley's recent interview came after Errol Lindsey's cousin, Eric Perry, condemned Netflix following the series' release. He criticized the company for dramatizing the sickening crimes.
Errol, who was only 19 at the time of his death, became Dahmer's 11th known victim. The serial killer murdered him in July 1991 after inviting him to drink beer.
Dahmer then put a hole in his skull and poured acid into it before dismembering his body.
"I'm not telling anyone what to watch, I know true crime media is huge money, but if you're actually curious about the victims, my family (the Isbell's) are pissed about this show," Perry said.
