"Harry Potter" actor, Robbie Coltrane chose to spend his last months away from the spotlight.

Coltrane's agent, Scott Henderson, first confirmed the news about the actor's death earlier this month. He did not reveal his cause of death, but his passing came after years of struggling with health issues.

Although Coltrane had been a successful actor outside the "Harry Potter" franchise, his last months before his death was simpler than expected.

Radar Online reported that the 72-year-old "Harry Potter" actor spent his last decades in a barn he rented in the Scottish Highlands. He spent $1,350 per month in the past years to stay in the area.

The landlord who allowed him to rent the house broke his silence recently over his death. Andrew Edmonstone, is Queen Consort Camilla's cousin. He revealed that he had not seen Coltrane physically in the past four years despite the actor being his closest neighbor.

"Reclusive is definitely the word I would use to describe Robbie. He is our neighbor and in fact, his barn is on the closest of our 11 farms to us here. But there is no neighborliness coming from him - not for years. Many years ago we would see him for private dinners. But that has stopped now," he said.

Coltrane usually ordered from Blanefield's Chillies, but the local takeaway noted that the actor's health woes made them deliver what he wanted instead.

Not seeing the actor in the years leading to his death was not surprising, as Coltrane publicly shared the health issues that kept him from the spotlight.

In 2020, he told Daily Express that he had been suffering from osteoarthritis that kept him in constant pain. He already lost his ability to walk without an assistant because of too much pain he was feeling.

Robbie Coltrane's Cause of Death

While his cause of death remains unknown, The Sun revealed the cause was Coltrane's efforts in losing weight after receiving a warning from his doctors.

He was told to start exercising and dieting to avoid the risk of getting crippled, especially since no cartilage was left in one of his knees anymore.

Fortunately, he was still able to receive surgery to relieve the pain he was feeling. But the health issues remained there that he missed his scheduled appearance during the Comic-Con at Olympia London.

Details about his funeral and memorial are not yet known to the public.
