Kanye West Sued by George Floyd's Daughter Through Whopping $250M Lawsuit — What Happened?
Kanye West's bizarre statement led him to face a quarter-billion dollar lawsuit filed by George Floyd's family.
West's recent actions and commentaries have sparked outrage again. But after his continuous attacks against people, he seemingly found his match as Floyd's family filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against him.
After CNN and other news outlets assumed West would face legal issues with his controversial remarks, Yahoo! Entertainment revealed that Floyd's daughter, Gianna, officially filed a lawsuit against the rapper.
Through Gianna's mother, the family announced the $250 million dollar lawsuit following his comments about Floyd's death.
Attorney Pat D. Dixon III said on Tuesday that the quarter-billion dollar lawsuit was launched to hold the "Jesus Is King" rapper accountable for his remarks. She alleged that the comments caused "harassment, misappropriation, defamation, and infliction of emotional distress" to the bereaved family.
"The interests of the child are priority. George Floyd's daughter is being retraumatized by Kanye West's comments, and he's creating an unsafe and unhealthy environment for her," Attorney Nuru Witherspoon continued.
Meanwhile, Roxie Washington - who is acting on Gianna and her mother's behalf - fired off a cease and desist to Kim Kardashian's ex-husband.
West is yet to respond to the lawsuit, but the filing was not surprising as he, indeed, dropped damaging remarks against Floyd.
Kanye West Crossed the Line Even More in a Recent Interview
The lawsuit was filed after West appeared on a recent episode of the podcast "Drink Champs," where he talked about Floyd and other topics.
At that time, the rapper claimed that he watched the documentary about Floyd and that he did not die because the officer put his knee on his neck. West added that man died because of fentanyl.
But that was not the case at all.
A viral video recorded the African-American citizen's death. The clip showed how Floyd struggled when a police officer, Derek Chauvin, knelt on him for nearly 10 minutes.
Floyd repeatedly said, "I can't breathe," while the people on the scene repeatedly tried to stop the officer. Even when his nose bled, Chauvin continued pinning him down with his knees.
He then lost consciousness while the officer was still kneeling on him. Unfortunately, Floyd was declared dead after rushing him to the hospital.
The final autopsy report said he died due to "cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression." The report also noted other several conditions that contributed to his death, including hypertensive heart disease, fentanyl intoxication, and methamphetamine use.
