Remembering Chadwick Boseman: How the 'Black Panther' Stars Paid Tribute to The Late Actor
As the premiere of the "Black Panther" sequel draws near, the rest of the Marvel cast reflects on the late actor's memory.
Chadwick Boseman made his debut in the Marvel cinematic universe as T'Challa, also known as Black Panther, in "Captain America: Civil War". Eventually, he starred in his own film, "Black Panther", in 2018, later reprising his role in "Avengers: Infinity War" in 2018 followed by "Avengers: Endgame" in 2019.
However, the superhero actor had been quietly battling colon cancer in 2016 and, later on, died on August 28, 2020, at the age of 43. Even after 2 years following the tragic loss, Marvel studios and the rest of Chadwick Boseman's fans are still mourning his death.
'Black Panther' Cast Pays Tribute to Late Actor in Style
During the Los Angeles premiere of "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" on October 26th, some of the cast members showed their loyalty to their former on and off-screen king, Chadwick Boseman.
Director and co-writer Ryan Coogler paid homage through his attire for the evening by donning a necklace that was inscribed with Chadwick's face on the gold pendant.
Additionally, actress Letitia Wright, who plays T'Challa's younger sister Shuri and is now the lead role for the sequel, honored the late actor by wearing an all-black suit as a reference to Chadwick's outfit during the 2018 Oscars.
Cast Members Reflect on Chadwick Boseman as an Inspiration
In an interview with E! News on the red carpet of the Los Angeles premiere, actress Danai Gurira, who plays the trusted bodyguard Okoye, got emotional reflecting on her memories of Chadwick Boseman.
According to Danai, she continues to find inspiration and guidance from the generosity that the late actor showed as a leader.
"One of the things that was very, very nourishing to me as we shot this film was keeping his image and his memory so close at all times,"Gurira expressed, "and knowing how he functioned in a space, how he was a creator and was all about the generosity towards others, and also just relentless pursuit of excellence and just really loving on each other.
"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" is set to release nationwide on November 11, 2022. The sequel is set to star Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, and Angela Bassett.
