Nicki Minaj Reveals Why She Regrets Her Plastic Surgery: 'Love Your Non-Curves'
Nicki Minaj just got real about her regrets about undergoing plastic surgery, emphasizing the importance of embracing one's natural appearance.
Speaking on the "Run-Through with Vogue" podcast, the rapper, who graces the cover of Vogue's December 2023 issue, reflected on her decision to go under the knife and the evolution of her self-perception.
"I guarantee you, if you change anything on your body and do anything surgical and all this, you're going to - more than likely, not definitely, more than likely - look back one day and say, 'I was fine just the way I was,'" Minaj shared on Thursday's episode.
Minaj said her mindset changed after looking at her past pictures, stating, "I could not believe even some of the photos that I didn't love."
While she didn't go into detail about the procedures she had, the rapper attributed her decision to get plastic surgery to previously not liking "being skinny, having a flat butt ... having boobs that didn't sit high enough."
"It was a lot of things," she explained.
But Minaj said that when she looks at old snaps of herself now, she thinks, "I love the way that person looks physically."
Minaj went on to share that "Papa Bear," the 3-year-old son she shares with husband Kenneth Petty, played a pivotal role in reshaping her self-perception.
"Seeing my son did remind me of myself so much. My real self," she said. "And it made me think why didn't I like this? So weird. But seeing old photos, being able to look at old photos again made me realize, 'These old photos are beautiful.'"
One thing Minaj has no regrets about, however, is the breast reduction surgery she recently underwent.
"Recently, I had to get a breast reduction, and actually I love it," she said before adding, "I used to want a bigger butt, and now I look back and realize how silly that was," she said in her Vogue cover story.
She encouraged everyone to appreciate their natural bodies, emphasizing, "Love your curves, and love your non-curves. There's nothing wrong with any of it."
In her new interview, the rapper also opened up about her marriage to Kenneth Petty and the impact of motherhood on her music.
She highlighted the comfort and ease that come from being with someone she has known since high school.
But Minaj did not delve into her husband's legal controversies, notably his house arrest following a threatening video directed at Migos rapper Offset in September.
Meanwhile, Minaj's upcoming album, "Pink Friday 2," is expected to reveal more facets of her personal and artistic journey when it releases next month.
In October, Minaj announced via Instagram Live that the release date of her fifth studio album had been moved from Nov. 17 to her birthday, Dec. 8, because of the vinyl pressing of the record, according to People.
"I am so filled with emotion about it because, as y'all know, it's been a long time coming," the hip-hop star said at the time.
