Prince Harry Appears In King Charles' 75th Birthday Tribute Despite Not Getting An Invite To The Event
Prince Harry appeared in the birthday tribute for his father, King Charles III, despite failing to receive an invitation to his special celebration.
The Royal Family shared a series of photos on its official Instagram and Twitter accounts to mark His Majesty's 75th birthday Tuesday. The pictures, which seemed to be the monarch's milestones every year since he was born, included some snaps of Prince Harry.
One photo featured Prince Harry when he was born in 1984 with his parents - King Charles and late Princess Diana. Another snap featured a young and vibrant Duke of Sussex while hitting the slopes for their holiday ski trip. In the 1996 image, the son and father duo was at a royal event, and Prince Harry was all smiles.
"Wishing His Majesty The King a happy 75th birthday," the caption read.
Netizens flooded the post with birthday greetings for King Charles, with many praising how "cool" the tribute was.
"WOW - what an absolutely fantastic post!!! Love the animations, wonderful And Happy Birthday to His Majesty, of course," one wrote.
Another commented, "Love this video!! [W]ishing his majesty the happiest birthday!! God save the king."
However, none of the photos featured Prince Harry and Prince William together with their dad, Page Six noted. Meghan Markle's husband has been estranged from his father and brother since he left the United Kingdom and moved to the United States.
Prince Harry's tense relationship with his dad was evident in his book "Spare" released earlier this year. He referred to the reigning monarch as "Pa" and recounted many intimate incidents, including some which didn't sit well with him, like when the King allegedly joked about his paternity despite rumors his biological dad was Princess Diana's former lover James Hewitt.
"Who knows if I'm even your real father? Maybe your real father is in Broadmoor, darling boy!" Prince Harry wrote, per Us Weekly. "He'd laugh and laugh, though it was a remarkably unfunny joke."
Prince Harry's appearance in the birthday tribute may have surprised some royal fans after previous reports claimed he snubbed his dad's birthday. However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's rep clarified that he didn't receive an invite to the gathering.
"In response to UK media headlines, there has been no contact regarding an invitation to His Majesty's upcoming birthday," Prince Harry's spokesperson told the Messenger. "It is disappointing the Sunday Times has misreported this story."
Even if Prince Harry wasn't invited to the birthday feast, he was set to give King Charles a call to mark the latter's milestone, well-placed sources told the BBC.
