The Rock Confirms He'd Consider Running For US President: 'For Sure!'
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is not closing the door on running for the presidency in the future.
The wrestler-turned-Hollywood star made the revelation Monday on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" after the host brought up the persistent speculation about Johnson's potential presidential run.
The recent wave of presidential speculation began after Johnson disclosed on Trevor Noah's "What Now?" podcast last week that political parties had approached him about a potential run for office.
Fallon revisited the topic during his show, prompting Johnson to express his gratitude for the support reflected in a widely reported 2021 poll revealing that 46% of American adults would support him as a presidential candidate.
"It's crazy. It's wild. This run-for-president talk has kind of been in the ether for years. And it never stops being surreal. Incredible. They came from D.C. We sat down. The poll was something like 50% of Americans would support me running for president. It was just crazy," the actor said.
When asked by Fallon if he would ever consider running for president, Johnson acknowledged the possibility.
"I think down the road, for sure," he said.
However, the "Black Adam" star emphasized his commitment to being present for his three daughters, Tiana, 5, Jasmine,7, and Simone, 22.
"I'm a proud girl dad. I have a 22-year-old. I have a 7 and a 5. So they're all age ranges," Johnson explained.
Reflecting on his previous wrestling career, he noted the sacrifices he made and the moments he missed with his eldest daughter.
"This time around, with my 7- and my 5-year-old, I want to be a daddy. That's the most important thing to me," Johnson added.
During his appearance on Noah's podcast, Johnson revealed that political power brokers had approached him in late 2022, urging him to consider a presidential run.
Despite the unexpected interest, he made it clear that politics was not his primary goal. "My goal has never been to be in politics. And, in fact, there's a lot about politics that I hate," he said.
While Johnson did not disclose which political parties approached him, he mentioned that they presented the 2021 poll as well as their own research and data supporting his viability as a candidate.
Although he has no immediate plans to enter politics, the "Jumanji" star left the door open, telling Noah, "If that's ultimately what the people would want, then, of course, I would consider it."
If Johnson does run for office, he would be far from the first celebrity to do so. Figures like Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Al Franken, and Donald Trump successfully leaped into politics, People noted.
In addition to political discussions, Johnson shared news about his upcoming film projects, including the live-action adaptation of Disney's "Moana," and engaged in a playful prank with Fallon at the famous FAO Schwarz toy shop in New York City. Check out the video below.
