Meghan Markle and Prince Harry probably have an ulterior motive why they wanted to join the royal family for Christmas, according to a royal expert.

In a recent episode of GB News, Patrick Christys mentioned a report from The Times claiming that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would love to spend the holidays in the United Kingdom, but they haven't received an invite yet. The host wondered if it was a sign that the royal rift was thawing.

Charlotte Griffith, editor-at-large at The Mail on Sunday, joined Christys for the episode. In her opinion, it wasn't the case.

"I get the impression they must need more material for their next documentary," Griffith said. "But, you know, I suppose they are saying the rift is slowly healing. We would show up."

The royal expert also noted that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's presence would only make things more challenging for the monarch, who hosts the annual festivities in Sandringham.

"But it would be fantastically complicated for Charles because could he really have William and Harry in the same room on Christmas Day? Can he trust them not to leak things? Can everyone speak freely on Christmas Day if Harry and Meghan are there? It would be quite a complicated arrangement, so even if they might be available, as you say, in the next six weeks or so, quite a lot of moving parts would have to be arranged by Charles to get them safely and securely in an environment where they won't be sort of fisticuffs at dawn."

Christys also wondered if the Sussexes might turn up wearing wires in case they get invited. Griffith doesn't think Prince Harry and Markle will do that.

She acknowledged the rumor that they wore wire once. However, she stressed that those claims were never proven, so she didn't think Prince Harry and Markle would do it.

"I don't think they dare. I just don't think they dare," she said.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams also spoke with GB News about the Sussexes' Christmas plans. For him, it's unlikely Prince Harry and Markle will fly to the U.K. for the holidays after they lost their home there.

King Charles asked them to vacate Frogmore Cottage, and the royal couple did in June. "They have no base in Britain, things have reached that stage, it is not good. The rift means there is no such possibility at the moment," he said.
