Chris Evans On Returning As Captain America In New Marvel Movie: 'Never Say Never'
Chris Evans is not closing the door on returning as Steve Rogers/Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Speaking on "The View" Monday, Evans shared that no one has reached out to him about plans to bring back the original "Avengers" cast, including his Captain America.
"I always see those reports, and it's news to me," he said. "Every couple of months, someone says that they're getting [Robert Downey Jr.], and [Chris] Hemsworth, and Scarlett [Johansson], and everyone's coming back. No one's spoken to me about it."
The actor ended his 11-film run as Captain America and exited the MCU in "Avengers: Endgame" in 2019.
But a recent Variety report said there were talks at Marvel to bring back the original cast, including Johansson's Black Widow and Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, for a new "Avengers" movie.
Evans, reflecting on the rumors, maintained a cautious stance.
"Look, I would never say never. But I really - I'm very protective. It's a very precious role to me, so it would have to be just right," he said.
"Avengers: Endgame" concluded with Evans passing the Captain America shield to Anthony Mackie's character, Sam Wilson/Falcon.
Following the Disney+ series "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier," which saw Sam reconciling with taking on the role, the upcoming Marvel film, "Captain America: Brave New World," is set to focus on Mackie's character as the new Captain America.
While Evans has not ruled out the possibility of returning to the MCU, he has consistently emphasized the need for the right circumstances.
In an earlier interview with GQ, Evans stated, "I'll never say never, just because it was such a wonderful experience... But I'm also very precious with it."
The actor also explained at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo in April that a potential Captain America return "doesn't quite feel right" to him at the moment, according to Variety.
Despite acknowledging the potential for more Steve Rogers stories, Evans emphasized, "I just don't want to mess up in any way... As much as I'm connected to that role and love telling those stories and working with those people, it doesn't quite feel right right now."
Johansson also addressed similar rumors during a "Today" show appearance, saying, "It would be a marvel. But who knows?"
Evans most recently appeared in "Ghosted," "Pain Hustlers" and the animated series "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off." He will next be seen in "Red One" alongside Dwayne Johnson.
In September, Evans tied the knot with Alba Baptista in a private ceremony in Massachusetts.
