‘One Tree Hill’ Reunion Could Happen Soon, Hints Chad Michael Murray: ‘Something Will Happen’
Chad Michael Murray revealed in a recent interview that now is the perfect time for the American drama television series "One Tree Hill" to return.
In his interview with E! News, the forty-two-year-old actor who played the role of Lucas Scott on "One Tree Hill" in his early 20s talked about the drama series, saying, "Something will happen... whether we get everybody together and do a live reading of the show or we create a new fictional future episode. I don't know what it will be."
Murray described "One Tree Hill" as a show that has "changed and shaped so many young people's lives." That's why he thinks now is the time to do a new generation of the series because of the current cultural shifts and topics that need to be addressed in the present times.
"I think it's time that we do a new generation of the show for today's use for the issues that they're dealing with every day, from social media to racial injustice to LGBT community to everything that's out there," Murray said.
"So people can feel like they belong and that they are loved. That's what we need," he added.
Murray's recent interview is a significant follow-up from what he previously said in 2022 that it was "too hard" for him to watch "One Tree Hill." "It's a section of my life that I deleted. A lot of development, a lot of growth as a human being, and [I] just deleted so much of it," he said at the time.
Despite this, he has always shared that he is always happy to be reunited with his former co-stars from the series, whom he considers "family."
"One Tree Hill" released 187 episodes in nine seasons from Sept. 23, 2003, to April 4, 2012. It aired on The WB Television Network from its release until it transferred to a different network in 2006 -- The CW Television Network, where it aired until its final season.
The drama series was set in the fictional coastal town of North Carolina named Tree Hill and started with the story of two half-brothers, Lucas (Murray) and Nathan Scott (James Lafferty). The two started as enemies but eventually developed a bond as the show progressed.
Its first four seasons focused on the lives of the main characters as they go through their high school years. The story fast-forwarded to the characters' lives after college in the fifth season. It featured a new storyline with flashbacks to their lives in their college years.
