LOOK: Sam Smith Wears Highest Heels, Smallest Purse On Fashion Awards Red Carpet
Sam Smith made a bold statement on the Fashion Awards 2023 red carpet in London Monday.
The 31-year-old non-binary singer, set to receive the Cultural Innovator Award, turned heads at the Royal Albert Hall in a thigh-skimming black mini skirt, Vivienne Westwood platform boots, and a chic blazer with dramatic shoulder pads.
Smith also sported a tiny black leather purse, completing a stylish ensemble.
Later in the evening, Smith accepted the Cultural Innovator trophy in a voluminous black taffeta dress featuring puffed shoulders, a long ruffled train, and cape-style sleeves, as seen in photos shared the Daily Mail.
Two-layered choker necklaces accessorized the ensemble, presenting a striking contrast to their red carpet look.
The "Unholy" hitmaker was honored at the ceremony for their groundbreaking style choices and viral fashion moments, including their red carpet outfit at the 2023 Brit Awards.
The outfit, a custom creation by a London-based fashion label, showcased Smith's bold and unconventional fashion choices.
Caroline Rush, CEO of the British Fashion Council, praised Smith as a "true cultural innovator" who fearlessly pushes the boundaries of both fashion and entertainment.
The decision to honor Smith reflects their impactful influence on the fashion industry this year.
During the Brit Awards in February, Smith made headlines for their black latex suit by Harri, featuring inflated high-pointed shoulders and wide outwardly pointed thighs.
The artist paired the outfit with shiny gloves and black high-heeled boots, along with a pearl earring on their right ear and a stud on the left.
Smith's unique style choices haven't been without controversy, as they faced backlash for costume choices in the "I'm Not Here to Make Friends" music video released earlier this year.
In the music video, Smith rocked a cream corset outfit with pearl chains, sparkly gloves and matching nipple covers. They also wore a Vegas-inspired black showgirl outfit with a large feathered headdress, low-cut corseted satin top and matching black satin skirt with a thigh-high slit.
In a January interview with The Sunday Times, Smith opened up about overcoming body dysmorphia and finding self-expression through music.
The singer highlighted their journey toward self-acceptance and liberation, emphasizing a shift toward authenticity and happiness in their own skin.
"I get closer to who I am with each album," Smith said, noting that their fourth studio album, "Gloria," was inspired by the "feminine spirit in me."
