Meghan Markle Becoming 'Too Hot To Handle'; Looks 'Guilty By Association' In Race Row: PR Expert
PR experts weighed in on how the latest string of controversies could affect Meghan Markle's career.
There are rumors that WME Agency might drop Markle after her alleged "mouthpiece," Omid Scobie, brought back the race row in his new book, "Endgame." Prince Harry and Markle have maintained their silence amid the controversy, but PR experts are convinced this might affect her career negatively.
"I suspect this is, in fact, true. It just shows that constant erosion of the institution is not working," Mark Borkowski, one of Britain's most experienced crisis managers, told Daily Mail about the rumor that Markle's agency might drop her.
Brand and culture expert Nick Ede also spoke about Markle's alleged association with Scobie's controversial book. According to Ede, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's silence makes her look "guilty by association."
"The book written by Omid Scobie is potentially a career incendiary device for Meghan. Just as Harry's own goal of a book has proved for him, the new book by Scobie unfortunately has fuelled a fire which many had thought would die down," the expert said.
"The issue for a huge Hollywood agent is that they will find it hard to navigate the career of Meghan fearing that more will come out over time and that, with court cases looming from her sister and potentially her father, she has tarnished her reputation and could potentially damage the reputation of her agency."
Ede acknowledged the "Suits" actress as a "superpower," and he believes she could make millions for herself and for whoever represents her. However, the books from her husband and Scobie allegedly did more harm than good for her.
"But she's proving to be too hot to handle and, even though she hasn't said anything about the book, she's guilty by association, and this is damaging for her and others as she plots her next career move," Ede added.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Markle are also at risk of losing their royal titles over the race row. Mark Boardman, an entertainment and showbiz expert with over two decades of experience, said this could affect their finances as they might lose millions.
"Financial penalties or contractual repercussions tied to their titles within existing contracts could amount to millions, particularly if lucrative commercial deals are affected to the tune of millions a year in lost income should the worst happen, and the Sussexes lose their royal titles," he said.
