Kim Kardashian's Daughter Chicago Doesn't Appreciate Mom's Fame, Child Expert Explains Why
Like her other siblings, 5-year-old Chicago West -- Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's third child -- seems to show discomfort in being in the spotlight too much for being a child of two famous personalities.
Notably, the young girl was often seen held or carried by her parents, sister North West, as well as her stepmother Bianca Censori, despite being physically able to walk by herself.
According to Kirsty Ketley, a 43-year-old parenting specialist from Surrey, U.K., Chicago's behavior might have stemmed from her wanting to feel safe when she's out in public. The specialist also explained that Chicago might be more "clingy" than her siblings because she needs more reassurance.
Ketley added that "carrying an older child should never be frowned upon" because like in Chicago's case, bonding with the parents is as important for older kids as it is for the younger ones.
Despite living in fame and being the target of paparazzi, asking to be carried can help Chicago feel protected from the outside world.
Kim and Kanye had Chicago via surrogate after the former's previous high-risk pregnancies. Chicago was born on Jan. 15, 2018, around the same time as her cousins Stormi and True, who were born in February and April of the same year, respectively.
Kim previously referred to her third child as her "independent baby girl twin" and "the ultimate princess."
In July 2022, Chicago's older sister North West held up a sign signaling paparazzi to stop filming her at the Jean Paul Gaultier fashion show with her mom.
Most recently, in October, her older brother, Saint, flipped off a paparazzi and got scolded by her mom. The 7-year-old made the inappropriate gesture after paparazzi waited for their arrival at a restaurant.
When their mom, Kim, appeared as a guest on the podcast "On Purpose with Jay Shetty" in May, she shared that her children were starting to set boundaries.
"I love [it] when they use their little voices. They also have such a normal life and such a different life away from all that," she insisted.
Kim and Kanye share four children: North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm. Kim filed for divorce from Kanye in February 2021 after being married for six years.
