Vin Diesel Categorically Denies Sexual Assault Allegation; Netizens React
Vin Diesel addressed the sexual assault allegation against him by a former assistant.
The "Fast and Furious" star was accused of sexually assaulting his former assistant Asta Jonasson. In her lawsuit, Jonasson claimed Diesel forced himself on her and masturbated in front of her despite "clear statements of non-consent."
Diesel's attorney, Bryan Freedman, released a statement Thursday afternoon to address the issue. He clarified that Diesel "categorically denies" the allegation against him.
"Let me be very clear: Vin Diesel categorically denies this claim in its entirety," Freedman said, per Variety. "This is the first he has ever heard about this more than 13-year-old claim made by a purportedly 9-day employee. There is clear evidence which completely refutes these outlandish allegations."
Diesel is the most recent celebrity actor to be plagued by a sexual assault lawsuit. Jamie Foxx was also accused of sexual assault for an alleged incident in August 2015, just days after Diddy's ex Cassie also filed a domestic violence lawsuit against him.
Some netizens felt that suing celebrities over alleged incidents that happened years ago had become a "trend." Diesel's legal woe also received mixed responses from social media users.
"I am with Vin," one commented. Another added, "Odd to bring up 'purportedly 9-day employee' and also '13-year-old claim' like how old the claim is makes it seem like it didn't happen."
"You thought he'd just admit it?" another wrote with a grinning face with a sweat emoji.
"Believe all women!!!!!" a different user stated.
"Why is it always the men getting in trouble because of he said, she said stuff but never women in Hollywood?" a fourth person asked.
Meanwhile, another user decided to be neutral about the issue until evidence is presented.
"I mean, let's see the evidence. Could be legit, but there's a lot of unstable people out there looking for a buck too," the netizen opined.
Jonasson was reportedly hired by Diesel's company, One Race Productions. She had just graduated from film school when she landed the job and only worked for them for less than two weeks.
According to her, Diesel's sister, One Race President Samantha Vincent, fired her. Aside from the alleged sexual battery, her lawsuit accused Diesel and his sibling of creating a negative work environment, negligent supervision and wrongful termination.
