SyFy has announced the title of its next shark-infested film, preparing to give viewers a double dose of Sharknado mayhem.

Despite the made for TV film's rather abysmal viewership ratings (only 1.4 million people tuned in for the inaugural broadcast), the absurd plot took Twitter by storm. Averaging nearly 5,000 tweets per minute, the viral trend garnered enough attention for SyFy execs to forge ahead with plans for a sequel.

The new project now officially bears the name Sharknado 2: The Second One, according to Deadline. It's a title which fits in nicely with the franchises rather blunt marketing techniques. Enough said, right?

Instead of bringing a mass of flying sharks back to terrorize the inhabitants of Southern California, scripters have instead decided to send the sea-dwelling creatures into the air around New York City, according to Celebuzz.

Whether or not the original cast will return for the sequel is still unknown. However, American Pies' Tara Reid has expressed interest in reprising her role.

"Why not?" Reid told TMZ when asked about a repeat appearance. "[The movie] was so ridiculous, you know? Like it's almost so bad that it's good ... I'm just so glad that people saw the humor in it that I did. It's just hilarious."

Just be sure to stock up on bar stools and chainsaws before Sharknado 2 invades your TV set next summer.
