Amy Slaton has gone through a lot in life, and her struggles have been documented on the reality show "1000-Lb Sisters." However, before making it to the TLC show, she was accused of scamming fans.

Amy and her sister Tammy Slaton headline the hit reality TV series "1000-Lb Sisters," which debuted on Jan. 1, 2020. However, Amy and Tammy already had a massive following before they got offered to do the show due to their YouTube channel, where they uploaded many videos, including cosmetic tutorials, the "Chubby Bunny Challenge" and more.

Interestingly, five years before their reality show started, Amy was accused of deceiving fans, according to Screen Rant.

Amy is known for sharing outrageous stories, including the time she explained an incident that led to her arrest in 2010. But in 2015, she raised eyebrows, as many thought she was scamming her fans and followers when she raised funds for her sister Tammy's funeral.

"Yesterday, at 10 a.m., Tammy went into the hospital. She has pneumonia, and she can't breathe," Amy said while holding back her tears in a since-deleted video reposted by the YouTube channel Primink.

It was no secret that Tammy weighed over 500 pounds at the time and struggled with her health. In Amy's video, she asked her fans for financial assistance because she wanted to purchase an extra-large coffin for Tammy.

"If y'all could donate a penny, nickel, dime, I would be so happy," she said.

She also set up a GoFundMe page where her fans could make donations.

But it turns out Tammy was not dead or dying. Their followers were even pleased when they learned she was still alive.

Amy immediately took down the GoFundMe page when news of her sister's survival made the rounds on social media and various outlets. Primink claimed that Amy managed to raise $1,000 for Tammy's funeral.

To make matters worse, Amy shared a video of her hanging out with Tammy in their home a couple of days later. Tammy looked great and didn't show any signs of recovery from pneumonia.

Fans felt Amy deceived them, and they accused her of fraud and scamming them because they were made to believe that Tammy had no chance of recovering. If Amy hadn't mentioned Tammy was good as dead, many would not have donated, some fans claimed, per Screen Rant.

Between the two, Amy appears to be the reliable sister, per the outlet. However, her previous controversy made some question her character.

Meanwhile, in a recent episode of "1000-Lb Sisters," Tammy and Amy had an emotional conversation when the former apologized to the latter for being a "burden."

"That's why I was sorry for being a burden," Tammy told Amy.

"You were never a burden," a teary Amy responded.

In a confessional outside their house, Amy explained why she didn't consider her older sister a burden.

"She thinks that she was a burden," Amy explained, adding, "No. I did it because I loved you. And I will never give up on you. No matter what you do."
