Prince Harry To Blame For Sussexes' Disastrous Year 2023? Historian Thinks So
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had a rough year in 2023, and one royal expert said it was the former's fault.
Rafe Heydel-Mankoo, historian, broadcaster and award-winning commentator in national and international media who has appeared in various globally syndicated documentaries, joined GB News for its New Year's Eve Live telecast. The episode talked about the royal family, where Heydel-Mankoo spoke at length about King Charles' coronation and Christmas speech.
Host Dawn Neesom commented that if the King was the "role hero" in 2023, who among the royals was the "role zero?" This prompted Heydel-Mankoo to say the name he promised his dad he would not be mentioning often this year.
"Well, I promised my father I wouldn't be mentioning Harry much in 2024, but the question. Yes, well, you know the queen famously said 92 was her annus horribilis, I think we can agree that for Harry and Meghan, 2023 was their annus horribilis," he responded.
"Because it's primarily Prince Harry, I think that's made a disastrous year for the Montecito duo. Topping and tailing, of course, the year with two disastrous books. 'Spare', as you said, made them into a laughing stock globally, which gave 'South Park' the worldwide privacy tour, and we saw them being mocked by Family Guy in every late-night talk show and, of course, ending the year with 'Endgame' written by Omid Scobie in a selfie-stick and waiting to the Duke and Duchess."
Heydel-Mankoo mentioned the couple losing their London residence, the Frogmore Cottage, and their declining poll ratings. He said the Sussexes were "very happy to see an end to this year."
Neesom also mentioned Jemima Packington aka "Mystic Veg" appearing on the show before Heydel-Mankoo. Packington uses vegetables like asparagus to make her predictions, and she claims that there would be separation and divorces within the royal family while telling the audience to wait for some news from Montecito, where the Sussexes live. Neesom asked Heydel-Mankoo for his opinion about the prediction.
"Every time you go into the internet, there's another royal expert forecasting that there's a split or they're happy. None of us is privy to that information, I would say," he replied before jokingly adding, "but we'll see whether Mystic Veg is proven true or not. I think they'll last longer than any asparagus."
