The previous year saw the passing of several K-Pop and K-drama personalities in South Korea.

Here are 13 actors, singers and celebrities from the South Korean entertainment industry who passed away in 2023.

1. Na Chul


South Korean actor Na Chul, popularly known for his roles in South Korean dramas "Little Women" and "Vincenzo," passed away due to health issues on Jan. 21, 2023. He was 36.

He reportedly passed away while undergoing hospital treatment for his worsening health, according to The Straits Times. His illness was not disclosed.

2. Hyun-mi

On the morning of April 4, 2023, veteran South Korean singer Hyun-mi was found by the president of her fan club collapsed on the floor in her Ichon-dong home in Yongsan, Seoul, per The Korea Herald.

Per the report, the singer was transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead. She was 85.

3. Jung Chae-yul

South Korean actress and model Jung Chae-yul was found dead at her home on April 11, 2023. She was 26.

Her agency, Management S, confirmed the news of her death in a statement without disclosing other details, per Variety.

Jung was known for her stint in the 2016 fashion survival show "Devil's Runway," the 2018 Korean movie "Deep" and the 2020 drama series "Zombie Detective."

4. ASTRO's Moonbin


On April 19, 2023, the news of ASTRO member Moonbin's death shocked the K-Pop community. He was found dead inside his Gangnam, Seoul, apartment by his manager. He was 25.

"ASTRO member Moonbin suddenly left us and has now become a star in the sky," his agency, Fantagio, said in a statement.

His cause of death was not disclosed.

5. Seo Se-won


Veteran comedian Seo Se-won passed away in Cambodia on April 20, 2023, after experiencing cardiac arrest, per The Korea Herald. He was 67.

He reportedly moved to Cambodia for business. The cardiac arrest reportedly happened while he was getting an IV at a Korean hospital in Phnom Penh.

6. Haesoo

On Dec. 27, 2023, South Korean actor actor Lee Sun-kyun from the award-winning movie "Parasite" was found dead inside a vehicle parked at Waryong Park in Jongno-gu. He was 48.

According to a report by Ten Asia, police were dispatched to the park after receiving an emergency call from a woman saying her husband left the house after writing a note that appeared to be a will or a suicide note.
