Are Meryl Streep, Martin Short Dating? Selena Gomez’s Co-Stars Rumored To Be In Love
Romance rumors between "Only Murders in the Building" co-stars Meryl Streep and Martin Short surfaced online following their interactions at the recently concluded 2024 Golden Globes.
One Meryl Streep fan account on X, formerly Twitter, compiled and posted video clips showing the two actors during the awards ceremony and captioned it, "The way they look at each other."
The video clips allegedly show how the two stars gaze lovingly at each other throughout the event.
"I need someone to talk to about these Meryl Streep-Martin Short dating rumors. This is truly my Roman empire, I swear," tweeted another netizen.
"Are Meryl Streep and Martin Short dating? Because if that's true, that's like Gene Wilder and Gilda Radner multiplied by Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft," wrote another, citing two other great couples as reference.
After Selena Gomez revealed the real topic of her conversation with Taylor Swift, others started to speculate whether the friends she spoke about were Streep and Short. During the event, Selena was seated at the same table as the two veteran actors, who are her co-stars in "Only Murders in the Building."
An X user claimed, "I got the tea, the two friends are Meryl Streep and Martin Short."
However, the Canadian-American actor was quick to deny and end the rumors surrounding him and Streep.
According to TMZ, a representative of Short said that the two were not dating, and there was nothing more to their friendship.
The "The Devil Wears Prada" actress and the "Father of the Bride" actor recently connected in show business on their hit show "Only Murders in the Building."
However, they've reportedly been friends for many years before that.
In October 2023, Streep confirmed her separation from her husband of almost four decades, Don Gummer, per Vanity Fair.
"Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than six years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart," said the star's spokesperson in an exclusive statement to Page Six at the time.
Gummer and Streep share four children. They also have five grandchildren.
Meanwhile, Short lost his wife, Nancy Dolman, to ovarian cancer in 2010 after almost 30 years of marriage.
Nine years after Dolman's death, Short revealed that he still communicated with his deceased wife all the time, per his 2019 interview with AARP.
"...to me, she's still here," he said.
