Prince William Postpones Activities To Take Care Of Kids Amid Kate Middleton Surgery Recovery
Prince William has postponed his public duties to take care of his kids and be with his wife, Kate Middleton, as she recovers from a planned abdominal surgery.
The Prince of Wales has rearranged his schedule and will not undertake official duties during Princess Kate's recovery, People reported.
During this period, Prince William will support his wife and look after their three children, Prince George, 10; Princess Charlotte, 8; and Prince Louis, 5.
According to the outlet, two international trips have been postponed due to the circumstances.
Kensington Palace announced in a statement this week that Middleton had undergone abdominal surgery Tuesday and that it was "successful."
This health update came shortly before Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles III would undergo a "corrective procedure" for an enlarged prostate next week.
The exact nature of the Princess of Wales' procedure and illness were not disclosed, but People reported that the issue was not cancer-related.
Middleton is expected to remain in the hospital for 10 to 14 days before continuing her recovery at home.
Based on her doctor's advice, her return to public duties is unlikely until after Easter, the palace said.
"The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private," the statement from Kensington Palace said.
The palace also relayed Middleton's apology for having to postpone engagements.
The Daily Mail reported, citing unnamed palace sources, that the Princess of Wales is "doing well" after the successful procedure at The London Clinic.
Medical professionals speculated that the two weeks of hospital stay might be a precautionary measure given Princess Kate's status as a public figure.
"The most important thing is that she gets enough recovery time, and it's not too stressful for her and her family," Dr. Zoe Williams told The Sun.
The Princess of Wales made her last public appearance on Christmas during the royal family's annual walk to church.
While his wife had yet to carry out engagements this year, Prince William recently participated in an official outing at Headingley Stadium in Leeds, supporting friends Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield's efforts against motor neurone disease.
Middleton may miss several annual events due to her recovery, including the BAFTAs, the Commonwealth Day Service and the St. Patrick's Day celebration.
