"Succession" Season 5 is "unlikely" to happen, but HBO's CEO suggested he would be open to a potential revival with series creator Jesse Armstrong at the helm.

During an interview with Variety, HBO and Max Content chairman and CEO Casey Bloys addressed the possibility of a fifth season of "Succession" after the series won big at this year's Emmy Awards.

"The chances of that are pretty unlikely unless Jesse all of a sudden said, 'Oh my God, I have the greatest idea. This is what I want to do.' I would take that very seriously," Bloys shared.

However, the executive suggested that Armstrong is now more interested in pursuing a new project than revisiting "Succession."

"But I think that he told the story he wanted to tell. It doesn't seem to be something that he wants to visit again, and I totally get that. I'm excited about what he's going to do next," Bloys added.

Armstrong confirmed in February 2023 that Season 4 would be the smash hit series' final one.

"Succession" Season 4 concluded with its final episode, "With Open Eyes," on May 28 last year, marking the end of the Roy family legacy.

Despite the open-ended nature of certain storylines, the show provided a fitting conclusion for its main characters, Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Roman (Kieran Culkin), Shiv (Sarah Snook), and Tom (Matthew Macfadyen).

Culkin previously revealed on Variety's "Awards Circuit" podcast that Armstrong had shared "brilliant ideas" for a fifth season when they began filming Season 4.

However, Armstrong made it clear during an interview with The New Yorker last year that Season 4 would be the last, explaining that he had long envisioned how the series would end.

"You know, there's a promise in the title of 'Succession.' I've never thought this could go on forever. The end has always been kind of present in my mind," he said.

While Armstrong hinted at the potential for a spin-off, HBO's head of drama, Francesca Orsi, dismissed the idea.

"At this stage, there is no intention of spinning any one character off," Orsi told Deadline in May 2023.

Orsi suggested at the time that Armstrong would likely create something entirely new and original if he does another series.

"Succession" won six Emmys overall this year, including outstanding drama series, best lead actor in a drama for Culkin, best lead actress in a drama for Snook, best supporting actor in a drama for Macfadyen, and best writing in a drama for Armstrong.
