'Wizards Of Waverly Place' Sequel In The Works; Selena Gomez, David Henrie As Exec. Producers
Selena Gomez and David Henrie, who played the roles of Alex and Justin Russo on "Wizards of Waverly Place," are teaming up for the upcoming sequel to the hit Disney series.
Gomez told Deadline that aside from reprising the role of Alex as a guest in the sequel's pilot, she will also executive-produce the new show with Henrie, who will reprise the role of Justin as a series regular.
Gary Marsh, the driving force behind the show, is also an executive producer.
The actress also revealed the new cast members of the "Wizards of Waverly Place" sequel, including Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele and Mimi Gianopulos.
The sequel will follow Justin's life as a grown-up who left his wizard powers behind, opting for a normal human life with his wife and two children.
However, after a mysterious incident at WizTech, a powerful young wizard shows up at his door, leaving him with a dilemma of choosing between maintaining his quiet life or embracing his past as a wizard to ensure the Wizard World's future.
As of press time, the premiere date of the Disney show's sequel is still unknown.
Meanwhile, Selena took to her Instagram Stories to share her excitement for the "Wizards of Waverly Place's" upcoming sequel.
On Thursday, she posted three Stories about the Disney show. In the first Story, she posted a screenshot of Deadline's article and wrote, "So excited!"
Next, she posted an old screen capture of her and Henrie with the caption, "We're back."
Lastly, she shared a photo of the show's pilot script and captioned it, "Home again."
"Wizards of Waverly Place" is a fantasy teen sitcom that aired on Disney Channel from October 2007 to January 2012. It ran for four seasons.
The series, created by Todd J. Greenwald, chronicled the adventures of teenage wizard Alex Russo in Greenwich Village, New York City, while training alongside her siblings Justin and Max to hone their magical abilities.
The main themes depicted in the series included family, friendship and adolescence, alongside fantasy elements.
