Prince Harry Snubs King Charles, Kate Middleton's Health Scare In Living Legend Speech, Royal Experts Claim
Prince Harry received his Living Legend of Aviation award on Friday, but he didn't acknowledge the double health scare in the Palace in his speech.
The Duke of Sussex accepted the award in a ceremony in Beverly Hills, California. The event was hosted by John Travolta, and Prince Harry walked down memory lane by recounting Travolta and Princess Diana's dance at the White House in 1985 in his acceptance speech.
"I was just a one-year-old when you danced with my mum at the White House, and now look at us!" he said, per The Standard. "The only thing left to do is... not dance together but fly together."
Prince Harry's speech was reportedly filled with jokes, but he didn't mention his family members who just had medical procedures. King Charles is recovering from a prostate procedure, and Kate Middleton is doing the same after having abdominal surgery.
Phil Dampier, a British journalist and royal correspondent for The Sun for nearly three decades, said Prince Harry's speech only showed how the royals were "further apart than ever." However, he also acknowledged that he probably sent them a word of support privately amid their health battles.
"It's possible that Harry and Meghan have sent good wishes in private, but you would have thought Harry would have taken the public opportunity to wish both his father and sister-in-law well," Dampier said.
"He must know that people are wondering whether he's been in touch, and therefore, you'd imagine he would take the chance to make it clear that he is supporting them."
Prince Harry's biographer, Angela Levin, slammed him for not acknowledging the family members who had just undergone medical procedures to address their health conditions.
"He just needed to say one sentence. I actually think it's horrible and disrespectful that he didn't," Levin said of Prince Harry.
"It was a deliberate snub -- to prove that he's independent and doing very well."
Levin admitted she was initially unsure why Prince Harry made no mention of his dad and sister-in-law. She thought maybe he found it too embarrassing to say anything about them, or he was probably upset about the whole thing. However, he realized it was a deliberate snub because he was cracking jokes during his speech.
"He was cracking jokes the whole time, and it seemed phony," Levin continued. "It felt like it was 'look at me' and 'it doesn't affect me.' He could have been more serious and said he's thinking of them."
Levin previously commented on Prince Harry's aviation award, which honors those who made huge contributions to aviation or aerospace. She believed he paid for the accolade because he was allegedly only a "companion" in the plane and was only in Afghanistan for 20 weeks.
"He was a companion in the plane, he wasn't there by himself making all the decisions. So, I looked around, and I believe that this charity is one that you have to pay to get an award," Levin said of Prince Harry's most recent accolade.
