Former first lady Melania Trump made a poignant return to social media to express gratitude to supporters and pay tribute to her late mother, Amalija Knavs, just days after her funeral.

The wife of Donald Trump took to X, formerly Twitter, Sunday to convey her heartfelt appreciation for the outpouring of support from well-wishers during this challenging time.

"On behalf of my family, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude for the love and support that you have showered upon us throughout this journey of loss and grief," Melania wrote alongside a photo of her mother.

She continued, "We will cherish the beautiful memories of my beloved mother and forever keep her light in our hearts."

The heartbreaking message marked Melania's first post since Jan. 9, when her mother passed away at the age of 78 due to an undisclosed illness.

At the time, the former model announced Knavs' death via a statement on X.

"It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Amalija," Melania wrote.

"Amalija Knavs was a strong woman who always carried herself with grace, warmth, and dignity. She was entirely devoted to her husband, daughters, grandson and son-in-law. We will miss her beyond measure and continue to honor and love her legacy," she added.

The funeral service for Knavs took place in Palm Beach, Florida, on Thursday.

Melania and Donald attended the service held at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea alongside their 17-year-old son, Barron Trump, and the former first lady's father, Viktor Knavs.

All four of the former president's children from previous marriages were present.

Tiffany Trump and Ivanka Trump attended with their respective spouses, Michael Boulos and Jared Kushner.

Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, along with their respective partners, Kimberly Guilfoyle and Lara Trump, were seen at the funeral service.

Republican Sens. Rick Scott of Florida and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina were among the political figures who paid their respects.

In a moving eulogy delivered during the service, Melania spoke about her "unbreakable" bond with her mother, the Associated Press reported.

She described Amalija as a "ray of light in the darkest days."

"In her presence, the world seemed to shimmer with radiance and joy," the former first lady said.

Melania concluded her eulogy by saying, "Rest in peace, my beloved mother," before touching her fingers to her lips and placing them on Amalija's casket.

Amalija and her husband Viktor had been living at the Trumps' Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida since the family left the White House in 2021.

Throughout the Trump presidency, Amalija lived in New York and occasionally visited the White House.

The Knavses raised Melania and her older sister, Ines, in Sevnica, Slovenia, when the country was part of Yugoslavia.

Amalija and Viktor Knavs became U.S. citizens in 2018.
