A black metal band received backlash for tossing a severed pig's head to the audience during a recent gig.

The band Martyrdom performed alongside Devoured Trachea, Accosted, Yung Jitt, 79 Stick, Big Pete, Entropy and Two Timer at The White Swan Live last Friday in Houston, Texas, per Lambgoat.

However, during the band's set, one member tossed a severed pig's head to the crowd, prompting mixed reactions from the live audience and the netizens, who saw footage of the eyebrow-raising gesture.

X user @SALVIATALKSHOW captured the "gimmick" on video and posted it online with the caption, "There is a pig's head in The Swan."

In a follow-up tweet, the uploader said, "It's real, and it stinks."

As seen in the video, the pig's head was tossed to the back of the crowd. One concert attendee could then be heard saying, "Oh, gross!"

The video clip has since gained over 900,200 views and several comments from X users.

"[To be honest], I would have cried if that touched me," one commented.

"This is the laziest attempt at shock value I've ever seen," another opined.

"I can't believe we have to say that bringing animal carcasses to shows isn't cool actually," wrote a third user.

"Maybe I'm just old, but I feel like people these days go to shows and do insane s**t to prove how cool and tough they are, but it just ruins the experience for everyone else, even them, because they're too busy trying to do their stupid s**t instead of enjoying the music," someone else stated.

X user @BongusBoyo was able to snap a photo of the pig's head mid-air and captioned it, "S**t was flying around [for real]."

Martyrdom has since issued an apology via Lambgoat after receiving a lot of backlash for the gimmick.

"Hi everyone. We just want to start off by saying we are incredibly sorry to anyone we offended with our actions and gimmicks on stage," the band wrote in a letter.

"We are a black metal band, and as part of it, we try to add a little bit of imagery and shock value to our set. Unfortunately, our acts have gotten carried away and way out of hand, offending many and even harming some."

Martyrdom went on to apologize to "any vegans, Muslims and other minority groups" who were offended and harmed by the act. The musical group also said sorry to the venue and the sound guy.
