Kurt Cobain Autopsy Report Leaked? PI Claims To Reveal Never Before Seen Document
Kurt Cobain's never-before-seen official autopsy report has allegedly surfaced online nearly 30 years after he tragically died by suicide.
On Wednesday, a private investigator named Tom Grant shared a link to what he claimed to be the Nirvana frontman's autopsy report via X, formerly Twitter. Enstarz could not independently verify the authenticity of the document.
"This is the first time this report has been made public," Grant claimed.
According to TMZ, Grant has been investigating Cobain's 1994 death for years and chronicling his journey on his website.
The private investigator did not explain how he obtained the document, but he insisted that it was real.
Cobain's autopsy report was never officially made public due to Washington state laws, which prevent the disclosure of such records.
TMZ said King County officials would not say whether the report Grant published was authentic or not, citing Washington law.
The alleged report, if genuine, confirms the widely known information that Cobain died by suicide using a shotgun, according to the outlet.
The document Grant shared also includes alleged details about substances medical professionals say were found in the '90s rocker's system at the time of his death.
Cobain died at his home in Seattle, Washington, on April 5, 1994, after a lengthy battle with drugs and depression. He was 27.
He left behind his wife, Courtney Love, and his daughter, Frances Bean.
In April last year, Love paid tribute to Cobain on the 29th anniversary of his passing, sharing an image on Instagram captured by R.E.M singer Michael Stipe.
"I love beautiful hands, it's the first thing I look at in another. I love that the only photograph of Kurt that @michaelstipe took, despite being a lover of all sorts of beauty ... Michael saw these hands," the Hole musician wrote in the now-deleted post, according to People.
Love added of Cobain, "He chanted with me & often, & truly was moved by our Buddhist practice. Thus, I know he's in an enlightened place, more so, than we here in mappo are."
"Dear Kurt D. C., [I] & we love & miss you," she concluded.

"In Utero," originally released in 1993, became the third and final album of original material that Nirvana members Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl ever created together.
