Milly Alcock is the new Supergirl.

Alcock, best known for playing Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen on the "Game of Thrones" spinoff "House of the Dragon," scored her very own titular superhero character Supergirl. The Australian actress beat out several other actresses, including "CODA" star Emilia Jones and "Zombies" star Meg Donnelly, according to Deadline.

James Gunn, who heads DC Studios with Peter Safran, confirmed the news on Instagram. He shared a screenshot of a report from Deadline and, in the caption, wrote, "This is accurate."

"Milly is a fantastically talented young actor, and I'm incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU. Yes, I first became aware of her in 'House of the Dragon,' but I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for #Supergirl. She embodies Kara as envisioned by @tomking_tk, @bilquis and Ana Nogueira," Gunn added.

However, netizens shared mixed opinions about the casting. Some were not happy because they believed that the role was best suited for Connelly.

"Meg Donnelly should definitely have been cast as Supergirl. #Supergirl," one tweeted. Another added, "I think she's too safe a choice. Let's go with 'GOT' actress cause 'GoT' is popular. I look forward to the movie, but I think Meg Connelly should have been Supergirl. Hell, maybe she could be Power Girl."

"I would've loved [M]eg [D]onelly she's got the looks, and she's done an amazing job voicing Kara in the cartoons, but Milly would've been my second choice, and I'm excited, I think she's got lots of potential. [J]ames Gunn's cast so far, even though they're all my second choices, is great," a third person said.

"So, it's now official that Milly Alcock will be our DCU's Supergirl. I think it is a NICE casting, but I wanted it to be Meg Donnelly, but let's see what happens!" a fourth user opined. "I hope Meg plays another important character in the DCU!"

Meanwhile, many were also happy with the decision. For them, the role seemed perfect for Alcock, and they approved of Gunn's choice.

"MILLY AS SUPERGIRL THIS IS MY RELIGION THIS IS MY ROMAN EMPIRE," one wrote. Someone else added, "Everyone thought Meg would be the next Supergirl, but Imo Milly will gonna be perfect Supergirl."

"Forgot to mention this on @filmreelists, I think Milly Alcock is a great actor. She was incredible in #HouseOfTheDragon. Having read the #womanoftomorrow graphic novel, she's very suited for the DCU's Supergirl," another user said.

"If nothing else, it sure seems like James Gunn's casting prowess has carried over into the DCU because every decision on Superman and now Supergirl is fantastic. Alcock is a definite star," a fourth person shared.

Alcock will debut as Supergirl in "Superman: Legacy" and later star in her own film, "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow."
