Taylor Swift Can Sway 2024 Elections; Voters 'More Likely' To Vote Who She'll Endorse: Poll
Taylor Swift may have the power to influence the outcome of the 2024 presidential election, a new poll suggests.
In the poll of 1,500 eligible voters, 18% of respondents said they would be "more likely" or "significantly more likely" to vote for a candidate endorsed by the pop superstar.
However, 17% of participants in the survey, conducted by Redfield & Wilton Strategies on Jan. 18, expressed that they would be less likely to support a candidate backed by Swift.
The majority, 55%, indicated that her endorsement would neither influence them positively nor negatively.
Around 45% of the 1,500 respondents identified themselves as fans of the singer, while 54% stated they were not. Only 6% said they were unfamiliar with Swift.
Swift kept a low profile on political matters throughout her career until she publicly voiced her views in 2018.
At the time, she endorsed two Democratic candidates for the midterm elections and expressed her commitment to voting for candidates who support LGBTQ rights and fight against discrimination and systemic racism, The Guardian reported.
Swift also discussed her decision to take a public political stance in her 2020 Netflix documentary, "Miss Americana."
"I don't care if they write ['Taylor Swift comes out against (Donald) Trump']. I'm sad that I didn't two years ago, but I can't change that. I'm saying right now that this is something that I know is right," the pop sensation told her team. "I need to be on the right side of history."
The Grammy-winning artist also endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
While Swift has not yet declared her support for any candidate in the 2024 race, a recent report from the New York Times claimed that President Biden hopes to secure her endorsement for his reelection bid.
The Biden campaign reportedly aims to capitalize on Swift's popularity to engage young voters and garner financial support.
Swift's influence in the political landscape was evident in September 2023 when she mobilized her massive fanbase and online following for voter registration.
In an Instagram story, she directed her 272 million followers to Vote.org, resulting in a "record-breaking" surge of 35,252 new registrations in one day, Insider reported.
The discussions regarding a potential Swift endorsement have sparked various speculations and conspiracy theories from conservatives over the past few weeks.
Fox News host Jesse Watters recently suggested that Swift might be a "front for a covert political agenda," prompting a response from the Department of Defense.
In a statement obtained by Politico, Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh dismissed the claims, humorously referencing Swift's hit song "Shake It Off."
"As for this conspiracy theory, we are going to shake it off," Singh said.
Swift is currently gearing up for the Asian and Australian legs of her "Eras Tour."
She is also expected to attend the 2024 Super Bowl on Feb. 11 to support her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
